Lauren Hartman is an artist and professor of visual art at the California State University Maritime Academy. She combines visual art and archival research to document the shifting landscape of the Arctic and oceanic occurrences. To create her hand-stitched embroideries, she collects and reconstructs material from sources, including travel brochures, scientific research trips, and tourist snapshots.

She hosts hands-on workshops and exhibits her artwork locally and internationally.
